The Boishakhi Mela has cemented its position as the largest Asian festival in the UK and the premier event celebrating the Bengali New Year outside of Bangladesh.
The event was held on Victoria Park with the event arena including a performance stage, fun fair, hot food outlets and stalls all selling arts and crafts, toys, non-alcoholic drinks and a variety of food.
The approximate attendance for the event was 19500, thus crowd management and emergency, fire and evacuation were key topics during the safety advisor group meetings in the build up to the event and formed an integral part of the event safety plan.
As this is a large scale family orientated event, a robust lost child procedure was implanted into the event safety plan after planning meetings with the appointed security company and local police.
